T-Rex Would be Happy There

I never really did much posting on my most recent road trip... back in April. Lazy me.
We drove from LA to Seattle - all along the 101 and CA-1. It. Was. Awesome.

Anyone who's not done this, should.

One of my favorite places along the way: the Hall of Mosses in the Hoh Rain Forest and Fern Canyon in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. Jurassic Park was filmed in the latter -

and it pretty much looks like a t-rex would be right at home there.

Picture time!
Fern Canyon Trail: Something we didn't know going in: the trail is a river

There was no way around it, just have to get in it... it was April, freezing & totally worth it

Along the Hall of Mosses trail

Its a bit mossy

Dinosaur could come along at any moment...

Such is Life

What I used to do:

What I do now:

What I'd like to do:

If I won the lottery I'd be back in school in a second getting a 2nd Masters in museum studies, combine it with my Paleopathology degree, and find work in a museum. I see so many museum jobs pop up, some I even more than qualify for, but inevitably they hire the person with the Museum Studies degree. I can't do much if any osteology in the US, yet another reason I wanted to be permanently in the UK - far more work there in that specialty. But as it stands - archaeologists don't get paid enough to satisfy the Visa requirements. And there lies my predicament, and why I'm now in the political field. Such is life.

Home Sweet Home

The newest addition to my anthropomorphic marshmallow series...

A friend asked if I could make one up with a realtor/realty theme. What better than a couple of marshmallows buying their first gingerbread house?

Vote!

The website I sell my photographs on - Fine Art America is holding a photo contest - the prize is a spot in one of their TV ads. The catch? I need 250 votes for my photograph to be a finalist, that then gets sent to a jury vote.

Please please please help me get some votes - as of 4/30 I am at 25. The deadline to reach 250 is May 31st. Please share, stumble, tweet this post or the link on the photo itself: The Mary D. Hume

Panic!

I thought I had accidentally ERASED a big chunk of photos from my trip. Photos of a boat I had been wanting to photograph for a long time, and finally got to do it.

I was a bit mad at myself for a while, and sad.

Well stupid me just went rummaging through my unprocessed photos again - low and behold, there they be. Took so many shots they got buried.

I'm a huge fan of old, decaying historic STUFF ... they make for great photos, and usually have a story to tell. Plus being an archaeologist I'm kinda programmed to be into that kind of thing.

This is the Mary D. Hume - you can read about her HERE

LA to Seattle... Go!

Just came back a few days ago from a roadtrip with 2 very good friends. Both from the UK, and one had never been to the states... both blown away by the scenery. I had taken a trip a few years back with the other guy to Alaska and Seattle, and we just had to go back - it was too good!

So, being a photography junkie - the trip in pictures... click to go to the website and see them properly! Totally out of order, and just a handful of favorites:
